Day 4 - Ridin' Eighty-Five

And just like that we were off for another long day of driving to camp out at the Badlands. It was an 8 hour drive from Nina’s so we left early and spent most of the day driving. We made a quick Whole Foods then skiddadled. We made a few pit stops, caught up on emails, stretched a bit and kept on going west on i-90.

One cool stop we made was at the Wall Drug store. It is a historic (now extremely touristy) western town with $0.05 coffee and vintage style stores.

On a slightly sadder note, we drove past a lot of slaughter houses, and a couple tractor trailers full of livestock that weren’t gonna make it too much longer. The reason I put this in is because growing up where I did, I never saw things like this in the flesh. This really hit me when we got to Badlands National Park. We drove up to see herds of Bison chilling on the side of the road. I was able to have eye to eye contact which made me think.

On our drive through the National Park, we saw a coyote, lots of prairie dogs, and some other wildlife. It was interesting to feel like I was living in these animals habitat and to be the outsider in their land. We got to the campsite to see a pretty sunset, made a quick dinner and crashed… hard.
