Day 5 - Exploring the Badlands
We woke up much colder than when we went to bed. It is crazy how much the temperature varies throughout the day here. Jonah scooted out of the tent so he could catch the sunrise. I checked it out for a few minutes but was so tired. It was amazing to see the sunrise and still see the moon on the other side of the sky.
A couple hours later I woke up with a hot cup of coffee waiting for me and ate a yogurt/ granola breakfast. I thought it would be fun to check out a hike so we drove deep into the Badlands and checked out some cool sights and went on a nice hike. It got all the way up to 93 degrees when at night it dropped to about 60 degrees. I definitely got a little sun today. We saw more prairie dogs, bison and mountain goats who are not shy to come nearby… some even ventured into the campground.
When we came back to the campground we made some lunch, chilled for a while then went on another path up a mountain next to the campground (btw the name of it is Sage Creek and we highly recommend). We saw a beautiful sky and enjoyed a relaxing evening. Tomorrow we venture to another campground in between here and Yellowstone, called Bighorn National Forest.
